Dec 24, 2020 As with the MP-654K, the first two numbers following the T prefix denote the year of manufacture, but unlike the non-blow-back Makarov, the next three numerals represent the model designation, i.e. The final five numbers are the serial number of the pistol. You may also want to watch.

Saw this 2020 model Makarov, 12 shot pistol, by Baikal, MP442 (Russian). It is 9 x 18 Makarov, with two 12 round magazines. The 20 preceding its serial number denotes the year of manufacture. It is a decent pistol, reliable , accurate and small size, minus the slightly thick grip. It has a special magazine that has two springs, a smaller upper magazine for the single rounds and it gets wider after that (towards the base) so has another spring for the double stack rounds. Also has a safety/decocker and firing pin block etc. I have used this particular brand for 5 years without a hiccup. Presently selling for Rs 110 to 130k. It is a good concealed carry choice, plus the ammo is very cheap. A very good choice for SD/CC.

Physical Description

The Baikal IZH-70-01 is the commercial version of the Makarov PM, produced for sale in the West. Apart from its designation it is the same as the Model PM. It is an 8 shot medium-size pistol with a straight blowback action and is of all steel construction with a frame-fixed barrel. In a blowback designs such as this, the only force holding the slide closed is that of the recoil spring wrapped around the barrel; as a consequence upon firing the barrel and slide do not have to unlock. Blowback designs are simple and more accurate than designs using a recoiling, tilting, or articulated barrel, but they are limited practically by the need to have weight in the slide. The 9×18mm cartridge (Russian designation: 57-N-181S) around which this pistol was designed provides enough energy to action the blowback design. The PM is heavy for its size, largely because of the heavy slide which is needed to provide greater inertia to delay the opening of the breech until internal pressures have fallen to a safe level. The Makarov design is widely regarded as particularly well balanced. The slide also has a full- length textured anti-glare strip on the top
In concept the Makarov PM is a very simple pistol, the designer Makarov and his team, during development, drastically simplified the construction of the pistol, improving its reliability and reducing the number of parts to an astonishing 27, not including the magazine.
The chrome-lined, 4-groove, right hand twist, 9.27mm (true calibre) barrel is pressed and pinned to the frame through a precision-machined ring. There is a 7kg rated recoil spring that wraps around the barrel which also acts as the spring guide. The safety lever is missing.
The front sight is integrally machined into the slide. The fixed rear sight is dovetailed into the slide. The extractor is of an external spring-loaded type. The breech face is deeply recessed in order to improve extraction and ejection reliability. The stamped sheet steel slide-lock lever has an internal tail serving the additional purpose of an ejector. The one-piece, wraparound bakelite or later plastic grip is reinforced with steel inserts and has a detent inside the screw bushing preventing unscrewing during firing. There is impressed a 5 pointed star within a circle on each side of the grip. A lanyard ring is affixed on the left side of the grip.
The sheet-metal mainspring housed inside the grip operates the hammer, the trigger and the disconnector, and its lower end is the heel and spring of the magazine catch. The sear spring also serves a dual purpose by operating the slide-lock lever.
The Model PM has a free-floating triangular shaped firing pin, with no firing pin spring or firing pin block.

Baikal Makarov Serial Numbers 2020

The Series 70 pistols were developed in the early 1990s as a sporting pistol. They were marketed during the 1990s in the United States under model designation, IJ-70 or IZH-70, in both standard (8 shot) and high capacity (10 and 12 shot) PMM type frames. In order to meet US import requirements, under the 1968 GCA, they were fitted with adjustable rear sights and/or contoured grips with a thumb rest, this was in order to classify them as ‘sporting pistols’. The US after-market supplied a wide verity of grips, traditional and sporting. It is understood that up to 18,000 pistols where sold into the US market between 1989 and 1994 when they became subject to the AWB (Automatic Weapons Ban1994) in September 1994. These pistols originally come with 12 round magazines and afterwards, they were restricted to 10 rounds. The IJ-70 model was discontinued in 1999.
